Easy Tailgating Party Foods - Lip Smackin' Good

Football season is in full swing! So it’s time to fire up the grill, and sport your team colors as you prepare for your next tailgating party. We’ve collected a handful of very easy tailgating party food recipes that are both delicious and easy to make. They’re sure to be the highlight of your game day.

1: Grilled Hot Dogs with Southern Fixings

Hot dogs are a staple at football parties, but that doesn’t mean they have to be boring! Why do ketchup, mustard, and chili get to have all the glory? Set up a hot dog bar with a some of these Southern-themed topping suggestions.

2: Jalapeño Popper Pigs in a Blanket 

The spicy flavor of jalapeños adds a little bit of zest to these pigs in a blanket.

  • 18 jalapeño peppers 

  • 36 mini smoked sausages 

  • 8 oz. cream cheese, softened 

  • 3 oz. spicy Monterey Jack, shredded 

  • 3 oz. mild cheddar, shredded 

  • 3 pastry puff sheets, thawed 

  • 1 egg 

  • Red Jalapeño Pepper Jelly


  1. Preheat the oven to 400° F. 

  2. Halve, core and seed all of your jalapeños. 

  3. Mix all of the cheeses together in a medium sized bowl. Fill each jalapeño pepper with the cheese mixture. Then, top each cheese-filled jalapeño pepper with the cocktail wieners. Dab a small amount of Red Jalapeño Pepper Jelly on top of each one, and spread. 

  4. Whisk egg in a small bowl. 

  5. Unroll 1 puff pastry dough sheet on a gently floured surface. Cut it into 6 equal strips, and then cut the strips in half, cross-ways, to create 12 equal-sized pieces. Roll each stuffed pepper piece in 1 puff pastry strip. Place the wrapped jalapeño pieces on the prepared baking sheets. Repeat until you use up all the jalapeño pieces. 

  6. Brush the puff pastry tops with the egg and sprinkle lightly with salt. Bake until browned, for about 25 to 30 minutes.

3: Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries 

Sweet potato fries are delightfully Southern and usually a big hit at tailgating parties! These crisp, sweet taters usually go great with just ketchup or ranch, or you could mix together mayonnaise and Sriracha for a spicy dip.  


  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled, cut into 1×3-inch wedges 

  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil 

  • ⅓ teaspoon sea salt 

  • 1 teaspoon Hissie Fit Spice Blend


  1. Place rack in upper third of oven and preheat oven to 425° F.  

  2. Spray baking sheet with a non-stick spray.  

  3. Set sweet potatoes and vegetable oil in large bowl and toss lightly. Sprinkle with salt and spice blend.  

  4. Next, arrange potatoes in a single layer on prepared baking sheet—be sure not to overcrowd them. 

  5. Bake until the potatoes are tender and golden brown, turning occasionally.  

  6. Cooking time is about 18 to 24 minutes. Let them cool at least 5 minutes before serving.
